Pay it forward through literacy!

When our own community was devastated by the tornado, school children in the Cedar Valley donated books as gifts to students who had lost their belongings. The Aplington Parkersburg Middle School would like to pay it forward by helping middle school students in the Houston area affected by the hurricane and flooding.

Students may purchase books from the Scholastic flyers sent home or by going through my Scholastic website. See directions below for online orders.

Students may order books as a donation as well as for personal use. If ordering for self, please indicate on the Scholastic order form or email me to inform me of the book titles. If you are unsure of what books to order for middle schoolers, we will also accept cash donations as well as checks made out to Scholastic for a predetermined amount. From there, students in our class can have the honor of choosing the books that they believe middle schoolers from Houston would love! Remember that through our Scholastic orders, we receive points to use in the future for buying more books for the classroom! We are all winning through the love of literacy! We ask that donations and orders be in by Thursday, October 11th. Please do not hesitate to ask questions! Thank you! Sara Janssen

Thank you again for partnering with us.

Iowa 99 County Bible Reading Marathon

Please mark your calendars for the second annual 99 County Bible Reading Marathon which will take place at the Butler County Courthouse on Saturday, September 16, at 9:00 a.m. All volunteers are asked to bring their own Bible (any version), a lawn chair and possible rain gear. There will be a sign-in table where groups of two and three will be given a section of Scripture to read out loud somewhere on the courthouse grounds. If we do not finish on the 16th, we will meet again at 9:00 the following week. We cherish the Word of God and our First Amendment freedoms that allow us to do this. We hope you will catch the fire of our excitement and plan to be a part of this very historic occasion!
