Operation Christmas Child

Yes it is that time again. It seems like it comes earlier every year.

Your Mission Committee has decided we want to continue with this holiday tradition.
I hope you were able to snag up some bargains ahead of time. If we can "Feed the Children,"
we also want to bless them with our gift of love and good will through "Operation Christmas Child'.
Boxes will be set out this Sunday, November 5th. Our goal is to fill 50 boxes this year. Consider taking home a box for
yourself, each child or grandkids? Our goal is to share the joy of giving to those less fortunate, maybe even bring a single
child to know Jesus because of a simple gift. That is the reason for the season.
The boxes are in the narthex and need to be returned to the church by November 19th as they will be picked up on the 20th.
We want to thank you for your support in advance.

The Ugly Quilt Mission Group

Thank you for your contribution to our Ugly Quilt sleeping bag project. Our volunteer group has been working for over 25 years making these sleeping bags for the homeless. As of March 2017, we are nearing 16,000 sleeping bags. (We made it 3/30/2017!) We use donated blankets, bedspreads, sheets, mattress pads, comforter , and fabric. Four men's neckties are used to tie each bag. Each bag also contains what we call a ditty bag with hygiene supplies, towel, socks, t-shirt, a ball cap or warm knitted cap, and games for the children's bags. Dog beds made from left over craps are donated to animal hospitals and shelters.

We meet Thursday morning at the First United Methodist Church across from the Mesa Arts Center. We are a mission of the church and affiliated with a national group called My Brother's Keeper. Our sleeping bags are distributed by the Salvation Army, local veterans organizations and several area churches. Our volunteers come from various church denominations and include a host of winter visitors from all over the U.S. and Canada.

Your contribution is greatly appreciated by those who work with these sleeping bags, but even more so by those who slept a little warmer last night.

Warm Fire & Hot Chocolate

This is a movie that will be at the Grundy Center Theatre on October 20 - 26 at 7:30 p.m. When tragedy strikes 3 families, their destiny forces them on a converging path to discover God’s love, grace and mercy as the challenges of their fate could also resurrect their beliefs.
